Dystopian Wars: Thales Corvette

Hi everyone,

As this is the year of army building (or completing) for me, I have embarked on a push to finish up my Dystopian War Naval force before buying anything new.  So the next two weeks will be dedicated to Dystopian War articles.

The first squad I have worked on are the Thales corvettes - the small and fast unit of my Covenant of Antarctica army.  Like most of my smalls I wanted a more exotic/in-your-face approach, so I decided on a very bright scheme.

Like always, I primed the models in black and base coated with white. The next step was to mask the models for the first colour which was red.

Now, just for the record, most of my friends disapprove of my choice of colours, but I stood non apologetic in this case and went straight on with my mad idea of a colour scheme.  The next colour after red was a nice medium blue  for the sides.
Not happy with just red and blue, I also decided to line the red with yellow!, but enough of my ramblings.  Here are two photos of the finished products.

Well that is all for this week, next week I will come with the Fresnels.  So until then, farewell and good health.

Eaglemoss Wolverine: Part 3

Hi everyone,

I have finally finished the corner for the diorama.  As with most of my work, I enjoy the construction part more than the actual painting - but paint I must!, but that is for another post.

As you can see, the sides and part of the brick work is covered in Das clay (an air-drying clay) and once dried, more Das was added to fill in the seams.

The pictures below show the finished corner with all the details added.  These details were made from balsa wood and plastic card and tubes.  All I have to do now is the pavement, but that will come at a later stage.

In the last picture I place Wolverine next to the corner, just so you guys can get an idea of the size.  By-the-way, the Wolverine model is now with its base colours (black, blue and yellow) and I will be posting this in part 4 shortly.

Once again, that is all for the time being.  See you all soon, but till then farewell and good health.

Zenos - all systems go!

Hi everyone,

The title says it all!  Last week was spent painting up my Zeno unit for Dystopian Wars and today I have the pleasure of posting them.  I will not go into detail as to how I painted them as the procedure is the same with my other models.  It is just the colours that vary not the technique used.

As you can see the colour scheme is a bit different from the other models in the force.  This is completely intentional, as I want a more eclectic approach to the colour scheme.  Let me explain further. I don't want all my models and units to have the same scheme in order to define them as a collective force, rather I want the style to define them even though the patterns might vary.

Whether or not I have managed is up to you to decide, but frankly I think I have come close!

Well that is all for know, until next time farewell and good health.

Vanir Drop Ship by ACPGames

Hi everyone,

Just a short post to let you know that the Vanir Drop Ship by ACPGames is coming to an end.  The last 4/5 days are here (depending on which part of the world you live in I guess).
I am writing this simply because I want to encourage anyone who loves gaming in the 15mm scale world of Sci-Fi and thinking of getting in to the project to take the leap!  The product is great and frankly the best drop ship on the market to date - no exceptions!

So if you are looking for a cool way to bring your 15mm galactic marines to the tabletop or if you want a fantastic center-piece for your army - then look no further!

That is all I have to say about this, except that I will be reviewing this once it gets here in May.  As always good health and farewell.

Nemesis Light Strike Vehicle Review

Hi everyone,

For the past two months I have been working on a project very close to my heart.  As some of you know, I am a fan of Flames of War (FOW), as well as sci-fi.  So I have decided to work on a sci-fi supplement for FOW.

I won't go into detail about it now, but the first thing I had to do was design the themes of my first two opposing armies and find the models for them.  In my quest to find appropriate sci-fi models at the 15mm scale I have stumbled upon some great minis which I have decided to write up reviews for.  It also helps to fill in my 1 article a week schedule as well :) !

To begin this series of short article reviews, I am starting with the Nemesis Light Strike Vehicle from ClearHorizon Miniatures.

After seeing this mini of the above mentioned website,I knew this was the light recon vehicle I wanted for my Human Core force, so I ordered several of these miniatures.

The miniatures arrived in a sturdy box with standard packing, and they came in plastic bags with colour card labels.  Personally, I am not very interested in packaging in the name of marketing, because that usually increases prices, especially when the product is not mass produced, but I would suggest putting the name of the miniature on the card.

As for the miniature, I was very impressed with the quality and standard off the cast. The model comes in five easy-to-assemble parts, and the pieces are all crisp and clean - no hassle in that department what-so-ever.

The futuristic design is sleek and practical, very suitable for a recon vehicle in the universe I have in mind.  Details on the model are clear and seem 'functional', something I value in models. The turret can be magnetized, but the fit is so good, I do not see it very necessary, especially after painting.

As comparisons go, I do not have any other sci-fi vehicles at the moment to compare it with, but I do have some models.  The trooper is from Oddzial Osmy's New Vistula Legion, and the super-heavy trooper is from Khurasan Miniatures (reviews will come as well).
The picture speaks for itself.  The scale is spot on.  I have read reviews criticizing Clear Horizon for the scale of the model for a two man vehicle, but on first-hand inspection, I respectfully disagree, but this is just my humble opinion.

Overall, I have to recommend this model to anyone wanting to buy a light recon  vehicle for their 15mm armies.  The price is a bit steep compared to other companies, but the quality and style of the product does make up for it to an extant.  In any case I am very happy with my purchase.

Well that all folks. Farewell and good health to one and all!
